Phase 1: Culture, Vision, and Strategy

Learning Objectives:

Establish a healthy culture based upon shared purpose, values, and envisioned future. This requires a series of change management initiatives to sustainably implement the pillars of a healthy culture. This is followed by developing strategy that will begin to move the organization towards its envisioned future. Initial strategies are primarily focused on foundational objectives, as well as core and possibly adjacent markets. Progress on these change initiatives will provide the organization with important goals from which to learn & master the disciplines of execution.

Measuring Success:

Successful achievement of this phase requires the following be accomplished;

  • Core Purpose, Core Values, and Envisioned Future have been reviewed, discussed and confirmed with a small focus group of key A-Player employees. This step may require several iterations as their feedback is incorporated in the final product. This step cannot be considered complete until every member of this focus group personally accepts the vision of the organization as powerful and personally resonating for them.
  • The Core Purpose, Core Values, and Envisioned Future have been communicated to 100% of employees in a series of face-to-face meetings led by senior leaders of the company. This should include input and support from the original focus group. Feedback must be collected to gauge the overall success of this introduction.
  • A Culture & Vision audit confirms this has been implemented in a sustainable manner; employees know the Vision, it resonates with them, and it has been incorporated into meaningful meeting rhythms of the company.
  • A Playbook containing the vision, targets, and strategic priorities is complete, all levels of leadership are aligned with the Playbook, and it has been communicated to 100% of employees.
  • The leadership team identifies clearly articulated quarterly priorities and targets, 100% of the leadership team is committed to their execution, a champion is identified for each, and an effective meeting rhythm is in place to drive accountability and progress.
